Python Software Engineer

About the role

Santander’s Chief Data & Artificial Intelligence Office is building a world‑class AI & Data team. We are looking for a Python Software Engineer based in Madrid to lead the design, development, and deployment of high‑performance, AI‑powered applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and development of backend services and APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI and Django.
• Build robust, scalable systems that integrate, serve, and manage machine‑learning and generative AI models.
• Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code and champion best practices including code reviews and automated testing.
• Collaborate closely with AI experts, data scientists, and ML engineers to translate model requirements into production‑ready software.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, and security.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering backend solutions in Python.
• Strong understanding of API design, micro‑services architecture, and cloud‑native deployment.
• Ability to work with cross‑functional AI and data teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
• Proactive attitude toward risk management and quality assurance.
