Technical Writer – Documentation for Smart Home Products

About the role

We are looking for a Technical Writer to own the documentation experience for Nabu Casa’s hardware and cloud products. You will translate complex technical information into clear, accessible content for a global community of users and developers, working closely with engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end documentation for hardware and cloud, ensuring accuracy, freshness and discoverability.
• Plan and deliver documentation for new features, integrations and releases in line with product shipping cycles.
• Collaborate with engineers to research and verify technical content, reducing their documentation workload.
• Audit and continuously improve existing documentation, flagging outdated material and filling gaps.
• Define and maintain documentation standards, style guides and templates for consistent community contributions.
• Tri­age and act on feedback from the community, support and internal teams to prioritize improvements.
• Contribute to developer experience through API guides, integration docs and contributor documentation.
• Track documentation quality signals and report on them regularly.

Required profile

• Strong technical writing background with a portfolio of developer or product documentation.
• Ability to read and understand code (Python, YAML, REST APIs) sufficiently to produce accurate content.
• Good understanding of smart‑home hardware and electronics, with basic troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with docs‑as‑code workflows (Git, Markdown, static site generators).
• High autonomy and self‑direction.
