Vacuum Engineer

About the role

The Vacuum Engineer will join InstitutionALBA’s accelerator team to contribute to the design, implementation, and upkeep of the synchrotron vacuum infrastructure. Working in a multidisciplinary environment, the role supports both new beamline projects and the existing ALBA and ALBA‑II facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design vacuum systems from concept to detailed engineering, including chambers, supports, pumps, sensors, valves and their integration with control systems.
• Generate technical specifications and tender documents for procurement of vacuum‑related equipment and services.
• Write design reports and acceptance test reports aligned with scientific requirements.
• Operate and maintain existing ultra‑high‑vacuum (UHV) systems and related scientific infrastructure.
• Define architecture and layout of vacuum subsystems within the accelerator complex.

Required profile

• Proven experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of vacuum and UHV systems for accelerator or synchrotron facilities.
• Ability to produce clear technical specifications and documentation.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.
