Assistant Underwriter - Commercial Property

About the role

Starr Insurance Companies, a global insurer and investor in commercial property and casualty insurance, is hiring an Assistant Underwriter for commercial property. The role covers the full underwriting cycle, from analysing claims experience to issuing policies and supporting credit control.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse claims experience to project future results and adhere to Starr's underwriting standards set out in the Underwriting Manuals.
• Keep underwriting documentation accurate, complete and up to date, with policy wording and clauses slip referenced and agreed.
• Ensure all accounts are contract certain at binding, enter natural catastrophe data into the RMS model, and log bound, quoted, working and declined risks.
• Prepare files for peer review, ensure signings match written confirmations, and issue policies, endorsements and certificates of bound business.
• Follow up outstanding quotes with brokers, track premium collection progress, and assist credit control with aged debt and cash queries.
• Conduct quality assurance checks on underwriting data, help reconcile premiums due versus received, and handle renewals to meet the Tech Lines retention target.
• Manage joint venture aggregations and support raw data generation for reinsurance reporting (RM and CUO).

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or law (other science degrees are acceptable).
• At least one year of experience as a Commercial Property Assistant Underwriter and/or as a Commercial Property Broker.
• Fluent English and Spanish.

• Proficient computer skills and ability to adapt to new systems.
• Underwriting and credit control support.
