Associate Policy (Legal) Officer

About the role

The Associate Policy (Legal) Officer supports the Senior Policy Officer (Legal) in ensuring UNICC’s operations comply with the applicable legal framework and provides advice on a wide range of public international and technology law issues.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis on data protection, privacy, ICT‑related intellectual property, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity and related public international law matters.
• Prepare, draft and review legal and contractual documents such as service agreements, memoranda of understanding, commercial contracts and licensing terms.
• Provide timely, accurate legal advice to internal teams and external UN system clients.
• Support contract negotiations, procurement documentation and ensure compliance with UN procurement rules.
• Assist in developing and harmonising UNICC’s internal regulatory framework and risk‑management policies.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of progressive legal experience in at least one of the listed domains.
• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law, International Law, Technology Law or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in data protection, privacy, ICT‑related IP, or technology‑sector contract law.
• Strong research, drafting and analytical skills, with ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear guidance.
