Backend Software Engineer – Remote (Europe)

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join a fast‑moving SaaS team building a modern compensation platform used across Europe. You will design, develop, and improve reliable, scalable backend services that power benefits, payments, and flexible compensation experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems for the compensation platform.
• Develop APIs, database solutions, and architectural improvements to enhance performance and maintainability.
• Implement production‑ready services with strong testing, monitoring, observability, and resilience.
• Own features end‑to‑end from technical discovery through deployment and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver customer‑focused solutions.
• Contribute technical expertise during product discovery, challenge assumptions, and help shape product direction.
• Optimize system performance, reduce latency, improve error handling, and ensure data consistency.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and engineering standards.
• Use modern development practices such as small pull requests, CI/CD workflows, and continuous delivery.
• Build systems that support multiple markets with varying regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Apply AI‑assisted development practices to boost productivity and problem‑solving.
• Support team growth through pairing, mentorship, and fostering a strong engineering culture.

Required profile

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals with experience building and maintaining production systems.
• Proven ability to develop scalable applications and services in a collaborative environment.
