Design Engineer – Hydrogen Technology

About the role

Kerionics is looking for a Design Engineer to develop and industrialise the mechanical components of its solid‑oxide electrolysis (SOEC) and solid‑oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks. You will work on‑site in Valencia, collaborating closely with CFD specialists, testing teams and European project partners to bring a production‑ready electrolysis stack to market.

Key responsibilities

• Design stack mechanical components (interconnect plates, end plates, manifolds, etc.) using CAD modelling and tolerance analysis.
• Translate CFD insights into concrete design decisions and keep at least one design iteration progressing each week.
• Run mechanical and thermomechanical simulations and feed results into design choices within the same week.
• Validate designs through prototype assemblies, DFMEA and close coordination with the testing team.
• Supervise first‑time assembly of new stack designs to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Coordinate with suppliers on stamping, laser welding, sealing processes and flag potential delays two weeks in advance.
• Provide technical input for post‑mortem analysis of stack failures or test‑bench issues.
• Document technical specifications, prepare reports and liaise with European project partners on design‑related matters.

Required profile

• Experience in mechanical design of industrial components, preferably for energy‑related applications.
• Proficiency in CAD modelling and tolerance analysis.
• Ability to run and interpret mechanical and thermomechanical simulations.
• Familiarity with CFD results and their impact on mechanical design.
• Hands‑on experience with prototype assembly, DFMEA and supplier coordination.
