DFMEA Engineer

About the role

The DFMEA Engineer / DFMEA Moderator leads structured technical risk analysis activities using Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design for Manufacturing & Testing (DFMT) methodologies. The role ensures product designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with customer and industry standards while coordinating cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, prepare and moderate DFMEA sessions with cross‑functional teams.
• Ensure DFMEA reviews follow AIAG/VDA or company‑specific standards.
• Identify potential failure modes, effects, causes and controls.
• Maintain clarity, completeness and traceability of DFMEA elements.
• Evaluate design concepts, interfaces and requirements to spot risks.
• Track and verify implementation of actions to reduce risk priority numbers.
• Maintain DFMEA documentation in APIS IQ and manage version control.
• Ensure compliance with AIAG/VDA FMEA Handbook, IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
• Serve as key interface between design engineering, quality and manufacturing.
• Support customer technical reviews and respond to DFMEA‑related queries.
• Leverage warranty/field data to improve DFMEA robustness.
• Lead and moderate DFMT discussions, ensuring early identification of manufacturability risks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical/Electronics or related engineering field.
• 5+ years experience in DFMEA, product development, design engineering or quality engineering.
• Strong knowledge of AIAG & VDA FMEA methodology.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 standards.
• Hands‑on experience with DFMEA tools such as APIS or IQ‑FMEA.
