Economic Research & Business Intelligence Sr. Analyst

About the role

Santander is seeking a senior macroeconomist to lead the coordination of Latin American economic analysis. Based in the Madrid area, you will shape the regional outlook and integrate it with the Group’s global economic perspective.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate macroeconomic analysis across Latin America, synthesising local team inputs into a coherent regional view.
• Develop and maintain an independent economic outlook for the region, identifying key trends, risks and opportunities.
• Design, prepare and monitor macroeconomic scenarios used in planning, budgeting and stress‑testing processes.
• Analyse economic, financial and political developments in major Latin American markets and assess their impact on Santander.
• Ensure consistency and quality of forecasts, challenging assumptions when necessary.
• Act as liaison between regional research teams and corporate areas, facilitating integration of regional and global views.
• Prepare reports, presentations and briefings for senior management and committees, translating complex issues into clear messages.
• Contribute to cross‑functional projects, drive methodological improvements and promote AI‑enabled analytical tools.

Required profile

• Solid experience in macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, scenario design and coordination.
• Background in economic research, financial institutions, central banks or academia.
• Strong knowledge of Latin American economies and their risk landscape.
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics; postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred.
• Fluent in Spanish and English; Portuguese knowledge is a plus.

Required skills

• Advanced econometrics and quantitative modelling.
• Proficiency in programming and data‑analysis tools such as Python, R, Matlab or Stata.
• Familiarity with generative AI and automation tools for economic analysis.
