Engine Mechanic – Temporary Position on Marella Explorer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engine Mechanic to join the Marella Explorer during its dry‑dock period in Palma de Mallorca. This is a temporary contract role, reporting to the Staff Engineer and on‑duty Engineer, focused on daily maintenance and cleaning of engine and mechanical equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform major mechanical overhauls, repairs, and specialised work on engines and hydraulic systems.
• Maintain and clean engine rooms, ensuring all tools and spares are handled correctly.
• Assist with technical loading of provisions and tendering operations.
• Provide general maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting and minor repairs.
• Report any safety, equipment or compliance issues promptly to senior engineering staff.
• Ensure compliance with company, public health and international standards, including VMS and MLC requirements.

Required profile

• Punctual, proactive problem‑solver with strong organisational skills.
• Physically fit, able to work in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lb and stand for long periods.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple demands and maintain a neat appearance.
• Willingness to live in close quarters and share limited cabin space with crew mates.

Required skills

• Valid STCW 95 certification.
• Valid ASE Certification A‑III/5.
• Strong knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics and vessel machinery operation and maintenance.
• Experience stripping engines down and rebuilding them.
• Familiarity with VMS and MLC compliance requirements.
