Freight Section Box Maker / Carpenter

About the role

KBR supports the operational needs of U.S. armed forces at Morón Air Base in Spain and several bases in Turkey, providing program management, civil engineering, morale, welfare and recreation support under a five-year contract. The Freight Section Box Maker/Carpenter builds specialized wooden containers, crates and shoring to ensure the safe transport of mission-critical assets such as aircraft parts, engines and hazardous materials.

Key responsibilities

• Build and assemble wooden crates, skids and pallets to the dimensions and weight of each mission, and repair damaged containers by replacing wooden parts, removing nails and reinforcing structures
• Fabricate shoring to stabilize heavy equipment or bulk cargo inside transport aircraft
• Construct packaging that meets safety regulations for flammables, corrosives and explosives
• Interpret blueprints, sketches and work orders to choose wood types, fasteners and structural designs
• Operate industrial woodworking machinery safely (table saws, radial arm saws, routers, power nailers, drills)
• Assist freight technicians in shipping and receiving material, using forklifts and heavy machinery to move materials and help load outbound cargo

Required profile

• Practical experience in carpentry, woodworking, crate construction or related work
• Ability to read and understand technical instructions, work orders and Special Packaging Instructions in English
• Valid Spanish driver's license
• Preferred: 2+ years of carpentry, crating or industrial packaging experience, vocational training in carpentry or woodworking, forklift or MHE experience, intermediate English

Required skills

• Woodworking and carpentry, including shoring and crating
• Basic shop mathematics (measurements, dimensions, fractions, angles)
• Knowledge of lumber, plywood, fasteners and related materials
• Use of common woodworking hand tools and power equipment
• Work in noisy, dusty shops and confined spaces, lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted
