Head of Accounting

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled accounting leader with extensive banking experience to oversee financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of accounting processes. The Head of Accounting will play a key role in strengthening financial governance and supporting ING’s digital transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes in line with IFRS and local regulations.
• Ensure accuracy of the general ledger and all sub‑processes (AP, AR, fixed assets, treasury accounting, provisions, reconciliations).
• Supervise preparation of financial statements and regulatory reports.
• Maintain strong internal controls and act as primary contact for internal and external auditors.
• Lead system integration projects, including ERP implementations, data migration, process harmonisation and connections with core banking platforms.
• Partner with IT and business teams to map accounting flows, validate data integrity and drive automation.
• Manage, mentor and develop the accounting team while collaborating with Finance, Risk, Treasury, Operations and Technology.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in banking or financial services.
• Proven leadership experience with responsibility for accounting teams.
• Demonstrated experience in systems integration and ERP projects.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and banking‑related accounting standards.
• Experience with financial systems such as SAP, Oracle or similar.
• Familiarity with core banking platforms and integration tools.
• Expertise in ERP implementation, data migration and process mapping.
