Industrial PhD – Applied Research in Supply Chain Planning (O&G)

About the role

AVEVA is seeking a highly motivated Industrial PhD candidate to conduct cutting‑edge research at the intersection of machine learning and mathematical optimisation for process industries. The role is based in Spain (Valencia Region or Madrid) and combines academic collaboration with real‑world challenges in refinery and supply‑chain planning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mathematical models and optimisation algorithms for supply‑chain planning.
• Integrate machine‑learning and AI techniques to enhance exact and meta‑heuristic optimisation methods.
• Ensure interoperability across industrial systems and platforms.
• Create advanced data visualisation and decision‑support tools for end users.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computational Engineering, Computer Science or Data Science.
• 2‑3 years of experience in the oil & gas industry or consulting.
• Familiarity with refinery or process‑industry operations and planning.
• Interest in data visualisation and user‑centric design.

Required skills

• Advanced programming experience (Python, MATLAB, Julia or similar).
• Experience with optimisation tools such as CPLEX and Gurobi.
• Knowledge of meta‑heuristic optimisation techniques.
• Exposure to data engineering or system integration.
• Competence in machine learning and AI‑enhanced optimisation methods.
