Junior Underwriter – Aviation & Marine

About the role

Starr Insurance Companies is looking for a Logistic Junior Underwriter to support the Aviation Underwriter in Madrid. The role covers new and existing business, acts as the access point to Marine producing brokers in Iberia, and helps the Marine team in CEU develop a regional business plan.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse claims experience to project future results and fully understand each risk
• Obtain sign-off on business exceeding authority limits or falling below rating guidelines
• Keep underwriting documentation, policy wordings and clauses accurate, complete and slip referenced
• Ensure accounts are contract certain at binding and that all bound, quoted, working and declined risks are logged
• Reconcile premiums due versus received, manage credit control and follow up outstanding quotes and renewals with brokers
• Enter schedule data and quotations accurately, complete underwriting notes and conduct quality assurance within 2 working days of binding
• Carry out post-peer review within 5 working days if pre-quote peer review was not done
• Support the development of local wordings, review internal audit reports, handle renewals and contribute to retention targets
• Help generate data for the reinsurance strategy (RM and CUO)

Required profile

• Knowledge of the Marine market book of business, risk appetite and standard marine wordings and clauses
• Knowledge of aviation class of business desirable
• Up-to-date knowledge of claims and understanding of business plans
• Fluent English; French or Portuguese is a plus
