Project Director, Cost Management - Data Centers

About the role

Turner & Townsend, a global professional services company with expertise in the data centre sector, is recruiting an experienced Project Director (Cost Management) for its Madrid office. The role leads cost management professionals within larger teams, manages the team's resources against the business pipeline and takes the lead on strategic commissions and high-profile projects.

Key responsibilities

• Client and stakeholder engagement: act as the day-to-day client interface, lead multidisciplinary project teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Team leadership: take line management responsibility, conduct interviews for vacant positions, and develop cost managers through guidance, feedback and performance reviews.
• Project strategy and planning: develop and lead cost benchmarks, establish cost reporting structures and control mechanisms, and present revised cost plans to clients.
• Project controls and reporting: act as Commission Manager, produce monthly post-contract cost reports, lead value engineering and life cycle costing, and implement cost controls in schedule, cost, risk and change management.
• Financial and risk management: monitor budgets, analyse cost drivers and variations, lead commercial negotiations and contract administration, and manage internal risk procedures and the contract database.
• Invoicing: manage invoicing in D-365, validate invoice data, coordinate with finance teams and track invoice status.
• Business development: contribute to business development, identify new opportunities and share lessons learned and benchmarking data.

Required profile

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in cost management, covering planning, estimating, pre-contract, post-contract and final account.
• Experience preparing cost estimates and reports, and advising clients on value management, value engineering and life cycle costing.
• Good understanding of labour, plant and material costs, cash flow, commitments and overall project costs.
• Experience with key aspects of business development.
• Excellent presentation, verbal, written and communication skills; working knowledge of MS Office and modern cost management digital tools.
• English required; Spanish preferred.
