Railway RAMS Engineer

About the role

The RAMS Engineer will ensure the safety, reliability, availability and maintainability of railway subsystems and components. You will work across the rail sector to analyse performance, propose design improvements and support maintenance strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced reliability analyses for complex railway systems, identifying improvement areas and recommending design modifications.
• Assess availability of critical rail assets such as track, signalling, rolling stock and power supply, and develop strategies to maximise uptime.
• Evaluate maintainability, integrate preventative, condition‑monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques to reduce lifecycle costs.
• Apply safety management principles in line with IEC/CENELEC standards and relevant regulations (RE402/2013, RD 929/2020).
• Conduct security analyses including HAZID, HAZOP, FTA and FMEA, and propose risk mitigation measures.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed RAMS requirements throughout project lifecycles.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior RAMS engineers.
• Prepare high‑quality technical reports, documentation and RAMS deliverables for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support business development activities, tender preparation and customer interactions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in reliability, availability and maintainability analysis for railway systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC or CENELEC standards and European rail safety regulations.
• Hands‑on experience with safety and risk analyses (HAZID, HAZOP, FTA, FMEA).
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, project managers and external stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and delivering technical documentation.
