Senior Director, Epidemiologist

About the role

Novartis is seeking a Senior Director of Epidemiology to shape global oncology epidemiology strategies across the product lifecycle. The role combines scientific leadership with cross‑functional influence to drive evidence generation and safety decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute global oncology‑focused epidemiology strategies for multiple programs.
• Lead safety evidence generation to support benefit‑risk assessments, regulatory submissions and post‑approval commitments.
• Represent epidemiology in high‑impact interactions with health authorities, advisory committees and regulatory bodies.
• Translate complex epidemiological data into clear insights for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Design and oversee innovative non‑interventional and real‑world evidence studies.
• Build strategic collaborations with external researchers, data partners and academic institutions.
• Mentor junior epidemiologists and foster high‑performing scientific teams.
• Champion methodological innovation and global improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in epidemiology, statistics, or health services research.
• 10–12 years of epidemiology experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
• Fluent written and spoken English with strong scientific communication skills.
• Deep expertise in epidemiological principles applied to drug development and safety assessment.
• Proven track record designing, conducting and interpreting epidemiological and real‑world evidence studies.
• Strong understanding of drug development processes and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership influencing global, cross‑functional strategy.
• Innovation mindset with a history of advancing scientific methods.
