Senior Medical Director – Global Development, Hematology Oncology

About the role

AstraZeneca is seeking a Senior Medical Director to lead global development of hematology‑oncology programs. The role is based in Barcelona with hybrid working (minimum three days onsite) and may consider candidates from key US hematology hubs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific and medical input into the design, implementation and execution of early‑ and late‑phase clinical trials.
• Lead clinical data review, interpretation of results and timely reporting to support worldwide product registration (e.g., sNDA/sBLA).
• Collaborate with Clinical Project Teams, Global Study Teams, Clinical Operations, Site Management & Monitoring and field‑based liaisons in a matrix environment.
• Ensure patient safety through medical monitoring of clinical studies and share responsibility for study planning, execution and closure.
• Contribute to functional process‑improvement initiatives and cross‑asset, cross‑indication working groups as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in hematology‑oncology clinical development, preferably within a global pharmaceutical setting.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally in matrix organizations and to influence multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong track record of delivering clinical programs on time and supporting regulatory submissions.
• Excellent scientific judgment and communication skills for interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of clinical trial design, execution, and medical monitoring.
• Experience with regulatory documentation (sNDA, sBLA) and data interpretation.
• Familiarity with hematology‑oncology therapeutic areas and related scientific platforms.
