Senior Software Platform Integration Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Software Platform Integration Engineer within Airbus Defence and Space, you will lead the computing platforms strategy for the Aircraft Systems Centre of Competence. You will ensure delivery of robust, certifiable, high‑performance software for multi‑system airborne computing platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Elicit and maintain Software Requirements Specifications for safety‑critical computers and perform V&V in compliance with RTCA DO‑178C up to DAL‑A.
• Define full software platform architectures, including partitioning, scheduling, resource allocation and integration of third‑party applications, RTOS BSPs, drivers and middleware.
• Develop common APIs and standardized access to platform support software (RTOS, BSP, low‑level I/O, middleware) to support multiple design offices.
• Design and implement new capabilities such as secure mathematical functions, file‑system services and time/logging services.
• Share responsibility for platform software certification and interact with certification authorities.
• Perform trade‑off analyses, technical benchmarking and rapid prototyping on reference boards, focusing on multicore architectures.

Required skills

• Advanced C programming for real‑time embedded systems.
• GNU toolchains, GCC, Clang/LLVM, Diab compilers.
• ARM, PowerPC or x86 SoC architectures, MMU, caches, pipelines.
• Avionics data buses: ARINC‑429, MIL‑STD‑1553B, CAN, AFDX, TSN.
• Low‑speed peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C) and high‑speed interconnects (PCIe, DMA).
• Safety‑critical RTOS and ARINC‑653 (e.g., VxWorks 653, PikeOS, Green Hills Integrity, DEOS).
• RTCA DO‑178C and DO‑330 certification knowledge.
• Python for automation, JSON and XML data handling.
• Embedded Linux driver development.
• UML/SysML modeling (Cameo, IBM Rhapsody).
• Static analysis tools (Polyspace, SciTools Understand) and code‑coverage tools (LDRA).
• Performance profiling using processor performance counters.
• Agile methodologies, Jira and Confluence.
