Software Architect – Tools & Automation

About the role

The Software Architect – Tools & Automation will lead the design, development and maintenance of a Python‑based automation framework that supports multiple aerospace programs. Working within the Highly Integrated Systems domain of the Aircraft Systems Centre of Competence, you will provide cross‑functional architectural guidance and ensure the framework is scalable, reusable and aligned with certification requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain a robust Python automation framework used across several programs.
• Define architecture patterns, reusable components and libraries to guarantee consistency and scalability.
• Lead the full automation lifecycle from requirements gathering through design, implementation, testing, deployment and release.
• Establish and enforce software design principles, coding standards and architectural patterns such as modular, hexagonal and event‑driven designs.
• Develop production‑grade code in Python and create supporting shell scripts (Bash/PowerShell) for system‑level automation.
• Design Docker‑based build environments and integrate automation pipelines into Jenkins CI/CD workflows.
• Promote automated testing practices, including unit, integration and regression testing, and implement continuous integration strategies.
• Collaborate with internal customers and DevOps teams to translate operational needs into software solutions and ensure thorough documentation of tools, APIs and deployment procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and delivering automation frameworks in a complex, multi‑program environment.
• Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and certification considerations for aerospace systems.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
