Software Asset Management Analyst

About the role
As a Software Asset Management Analyst you will act as the subject‑matter expert for SAM, guiding complex software licensing decisions and producing Effective License Positions across on‑premises, cloud and hybrid environments. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to optimise software spend and ensure compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on software licensing topics and create Effective License Positions (ELPs) for major vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and Red Hat.
- Interpret licensing rights across containers, cloud platforms and traditional infrastructure, ensuring compliance and cost optimisation.
- Leverage data from Azure AD, CMDB, My Access and Intune to support billing, charge‑back and reporting activities.
- Manage charge‑back processes and allocate software costs fairly to business units and service owners.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors, leading negotiations and contract renewals.
- Identify and implement initiatives that generate cost savings, mitigate compliance risks and improve SAM controls.
- Support global SAM governance, standards, reporting and performance metrics.
- Drive innovation by applying AI and automation to reduce manual effort and uncover optimisation opportunities.
Required profile
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing software portfolios for major enterprise vendors.
- Proven ability to create fully optimised ELPs from data collection to final delivery.
- Strong understanding of license restrictions, benefits and optimisation opportunities.
- Advanced hands‑on Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, pivots, complex calculations).
- Fluent spoken and written English (B2+ level).
