Surveyor I (Entry Level)

About the role

The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position for recent graduates or candidates with less than five years of experience. Working under the guidance of an experienced ABS Surveyor, the role involves conducting conventional surveys of vessels, platforms and other marine structures to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a professional specialist in applying ABS rules, guides, statutory regulations and related concepts.
• Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, marine structures and at manufacturers for classification and statutory compliance.
• Prepare technically accurate and timely inspection and survey reports.
• Engage with clients to resolve technical problems within the area of expertise.
• Maintain survey files in an orderly, up‑to‑date manner.
• Support office procedures and monitor business performance at the assigned port.
• Develop a thorough understanding of field operations, policies, methods and procedures through progressively challenging assignments.

Required profile

• Minimum two‑year tertiary education in engineering, physical science or a marine/nautical program.
• Relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer or related industry exposure.
• Proficiency in English commensurate with statutory certification work.
• Any required ABS certifications or licenses for the specialization.

Required skills

• Ability to read engineering plans and understand basic shipbuilding practices.
• Knowledge of ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
• Familiarity with computer programs used for survey documentation.
• Understanding of ABS rules, guides and the employee safety policy.
