Surveyor I – Entry Level Marine Survey Position

About the role

The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position designed for recent graduates or candidates with less than five years of experience in marine surveying. Working under a senior ABS Surveyor, you will conduct conventional surveys on vessels, platforms and other marine structures to ensure compliance with classification and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, offshore platforms and marine structures.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection and survey reports.
• Maintain organized survey files and documentation.
• Interact with clients to address technical questions and resolve issues.
• Support office procedures and monitor business performance at the assigned port.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science, or a marine/nautical discipline (minimum two‑year program).
• Or relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
• Proficiency in English sufficient for statutory certification work.
• Any required certifications or licenses for the specialization.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides and related statutory regulations.
• Ability to read engineering plans and understand basic shipbuilding practices.
• Capability to conduct surveys using prescribed formats and procedures.
• Familiarity with computer software related to survey reporting.
• Strong written and oral communication of technical information.
