Ventures Analyst I - Energy

About the role

Plug and Play, a global innovation platform and venture capital firm, is looking for a Ventures Analyst I to champion its business model and drive portfolio growth across its global Energy platform. This is an entry-level position on the Ventures Team, supporting Associates and Investment Partners by sourcing startups and helping deal teams on new investments, and working with corporate partners on their technology needs.

Key responsibilities

• Sourcing: find startups relevant to the Energy vertical and other opportunities, identify emerging technologies, attend calls and meetings, and build relationships with local VCs, universities, corporations, research institutions, founders and industry stakeholders.
• Program management: schedule and run deal-flow meetings between startups and corporate partners such as electric utilities, oil and gas companies, chemical manufacturers and EPC firms; curate startup lists for partners; create trend reports and presentations on energy, oil and gas, electricity and grid technologies and deep tech.
• Diligence and investment research: work with Investment Partners through the full investment lifecycle, conduct diligence, develop investment recommendations and support portfolio companies; research investment theses and evaluate technologies, markets, business models and competitive landscapes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree; engineering, science, technology, energy or another quantitative discipline is a plus.
• Experience or internship on energy-related projects; an engineering background (e.g. electrical, industrial, petroleum, chemical, mechanical, materials science) is a plus.
• A Master's degree or advanced degree is a plus.
• Strong interest in energy, technology, innovation and venture investing, with good problem-solving and organizational skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Google Docs, MS Office and CRMs, and project management tools.
• Intermediate spreadsheet skills including formulas, dashboards, charts, pivots and analysis.
• Ability to communicate with C-suite executives and work independently and cross-functionally.
