Risk Assurance Manager

About the role

Monzo is seeking a seasoned Risk Assurance Manager to lead independent second‑line assurance across its European operations. Based in Madrid, you will evaluate the design and effectiveness of the bank’s risk management framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

• Design, execute and report on 2LOD assurance reviews covering conduct, financial crime, fraud, credit, operational, ICT, information security, outsourcing, data protection and governance.
• Validate compliance with Irish regulatory obligations (CBI, CPC, AML/CFT, Companies Act) and EU requirements (DORA, EBA guidelines, ECB/SSM, GDPR).
• Provide robust oversight and challenge to senior management and the Board, fostering a strong risk culture.
• Maintain documentation and reporting in line with the Central Bank of Ireland’s Controlled Function standards.

Required profile

• Significant experience in risk assurance or internal audit within banking or financial services.
• Deep knowledge of Irish and EU regulatory frameworks relevant to risk, compliance and financial crime.
• Proven ability to work independently, communicate findings clearly and influence senior stakeholders.
• Willingness to meet Controlled Function (CF‑2) fitness and probity standards.
