Senior Embedded Linux OS Engineer

About the role

Nabu Casa is looking for a Senior Embedded Linux OS Engineer to lead the embedded Linux effort within its Hardware Team. You will be responsible for enabling, maintaining, and improving Home Assistant OS on Nabu Casa hardware, ensuring reliability, performance, and security throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance Home Assistant OS support across all Nabu Casa hardware platforms.
• Collaborate with Home Assistant OS contributors and the Open Home Foundation to resolve issues and enable new devices.
• Lead board bring‑up activities, including Buildroot configuration, BSP creation, bootloader setup, partition layout design, and system service integration.
• Optimize operating‑system performance, reliability, and long‑term maintainability.
• Provide platform debugging, hardware enablement, and OS integration expertise for new and existing products.
• Act as the primary technical owner for embedded Linux enablement within the Hardware Team.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in embedded Linux with a proven track record of hands‑on development.
• Ability to drive complex technical work from investigation through implementation with minimal supervision.
• Strong experience in hardware‑software integration and platform reliability.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.
• Senior‑level experience working on Buildroot‑based systems.
