Additive Manufacturing Intern – 3D Printing

About the role

The United Nations Global Service Centre is looking for two motivated interns to support its 3D Printing‑as‑a‑Service (3DPaaS) initiative in Valencia, Spain. Over a six‑month period you will work full‑time within the Technologies Infrastructure Support Unit, gaining hands‑on experience in additive manufacturing, CAD design and project coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing 3D models using CAD/CAM tools such as Autodesk Fusion 360, Shapr3D, Autodesk Meshmixer and MeshLab.
• Prepare models for printing with slicing software (e.g., Ultimaker Cura, ChiTuBox) and optimise files for FDM and SLA technologies.
• Support the 3D scanning workflow using scanner‑specific software.
• Contribute to prototyping projects for education, research or community use.
• Maintain the 3D Printing‑as‑a‑Service website by updating content, troubleshooting basic issues and aiding platform development.
• Help plan 3D technology projects, developing timelines, resource plans and documentation.
• Document best practices, evaluate workflows and recommend Industry 4.0 enhancements such as automation and digital monitoring.
• Support plastic‑waste recycling initiatives by processing waste into printable filament and assisting sustainability outreach.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate‑level programme (or final year of an undergraduate degree).
• Available for a full‑time, six‑month unpaid internship.
• Strong interest in additive manufacturing, supply‑chain innovation and UN operations.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Chief of the Technologies Infrastructure Support Unit.
