Air to Air Refueling Systems Engineer

About the role

Airbus Defence & Space is looking for a Systems Engineer to develop, certify and support air‑to‑air refuelling (AAR) and boom systems for its defence platforms based in Getafe, Spain. The role covers the full product lifecycle, from concept through aircraft validation, certification and in‑service support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of boom actuation and control systems, including electromechanical and hydraulic actuators.
• Perform mechanical engineering tasks such as 3D modelling in CATIA, stress and fatigue analysis, and mechanism design.
• Define system specifications, create models, prototype components and plan verification & validation activities.
• Coordinate with internal teams (Physical Design, Structure, Procurement, Testing) and external suppliers to ensure compliance with safety, quality and performance standards.
• Support certification processes, industrialisation, and post‑delivery service for AAR solutions.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience with multidisciplinary system engineering covering mechanics, actuation and control.
• Ability to work on complex projects from concept to certification.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Mechanical design using CATIA.
• Stress and fatigue analysis.
• Electromechanical and hydraulic actuator design.
• Control‑system development for avionics, including software/firmware specification.
• Modeling and simulation, integration testing, V&V.
• Knowledge of certification, APQP and electrical wiring design (SeeXP).
