Associate Legal Counsel

About the role

AXA XL is looking for an Associate Legal Counsel to support its Legal France team and act as a trusted business partner for underwriting and operations teams in France and Spain. You will provide day‑to‑day legal advice, review contracts, and help launch new insurance products.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Legal Counsel with legal queries from underwriting, operations, and international colleagues.
• Serve as the primary contact for underwriting departments, offering legal guidance on insurance and reinsurance contracts, confidentiality agreements, brokerage protocols, and commercial agreements.
• Draft, review, and validate contractual documents to ensure compliance with applicable law.
• Manage project timelines, especially for the implementation of new products.
• Conduct legal watch activities, update internal legal culture, and deliver training to underwriters and claims handlers.
• Support multinational programs and coordinate activities with external counsel.
• Report to the Head of Legal France & Southern Europe.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in French private law, preferably with a focus on insurance law.
• Professional experience in an insurance company, brokerage firm, or law firm.
• Broad knowledge of insurance, reinsurance, contract, and tort law.
• Excellent written communication, especially for contractual matters.
• Fluency in English and French, both spoken and written.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑changing environment and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
