Backend Software Engineer II

About the role

Microsoft's Azure Data team is building the next‑generation data platform for AI‑driven applications. As a Backend Software Engineer II, you will help create the core services that power the Fabric Data Engineering experience, enabling customers to ingest, store, process, and analyze massive data volumes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, ship, and support large‑scale backend services in an AI‑first development environment.
• Collaborate with globally distributed engineers and product managers to define requirements and validate specifications.
• Ensure high quality, performance, scalability, reliability, and security of the Fabric Data Engineering platform.
• Participate in live site operations, monitoring service health and rapidly mitigating issues.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, engineering excellence, and high‑quality execution.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Proven technical engineering experience with strong coding skills.
• Ability to tackle complex technical problems with a growth mindset.

Required skills

• Programming languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python.
• Experience with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with Azure Fabric, Data Engineering pipelines, and AI‑enabled services.
• Understanding of large‑scale service design, performance optimization, and security best practices.
