Biomedical Technician – Lung Research (Pneumology)

About the role

The Pneumology Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research is looking for a motivated Graduate Technician to support the DEFIBER IV project within its Lung Transplantation Program. The role focuses on ex‑vivo evaluation of novel anti‑fibrotic molecules using human precision‑cut lung slices.

Key responsibilities

• Support the DEFIBER IV project by executing pre‑clinical studies on anti‑fibrotic therapies.
• Create, maintain and update databases that store clinical, experimental and laboratory data.
• Process, register, store and manage human biological samples following biobank standards.
• Prepare, culture, maintain and cryopreserve human precision‑cut lung slices from fibrotic and non‑fibrotic tissue.
• Perform ex‑vivo assays on hPCLS under fibrotic and pharmacological stimulation.
• Carry out molecular and cellular techniques such as RNA extraction, RT‑qPCR, ELISA, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and histological staining.
• Assist with tissue imaging, microscopy analyses and quality‑control procedures.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to scientific reports.
• Participate in routine laboratory maintenance, biosafety and quality‑control activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Health Sciences or related field.
• Fluency in Spanish and English.
• Previous experience in a biomedical research laboratory handling biological samples.
• Well‑organized, methodical, proactive and able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
