Computational Social Sciences Internship (R0)

About the role

The Computational Social Science and Humanities program at BSC seeks an intern to support research that bridges social sciences, humanities, and high‑performance computing. You will work on projects that apply AI, large‑scale data analysis, and exascale resources to societal challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and processing of large social datasets (e.g., surveys, social media, official statistics).
• Run and evaluate AI/ML models, including Large Language Models, on HPC systems.
• Develop and test Agent‑Based Models and Social Network Analysis pipelines.
• Collaborate with social scientists and computer scientists to interpret results for policy‑relevant insights.
• Document workflows, code, and findings for reproducibility.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree program in social sciences, humanities, computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Strong interest in applying computational methods to social research.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Required skills

• Experience with AI/ML techniques and frameworks.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Knowledge of Agent‑Based Modeling (ABM) approaches.
• Understanding of Social Network Analysis (SNA) methods.
