DevOps / Cloud Engineer

About the role

MIGx is seeking a senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to lead the centre of excellence for research computing. You will define standards, build tooling, and migrate codebases to modern, scalable models while working closely with research scientists and data platform teams.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and operate Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters at platform level, handling upgrades, dependency management, resource optimisation and multi‑tenant failure handling.
• Own and scale Weaviate vector‑database infrastructure, including tuning, replication, sharding and long‑term stability for RAG‑based AI systems.
• Design and enforce security across GCP (IAM, Workload Identity, VPC, Private Service Connect, Secret Manager).
• Build end‑to‑end observability for LLM‑based systems using Grafana, LangFuse and LangSmith.
• Maintain infrastructure‑as‑code with Terraform and drive GitOps workflows via ArgoCD or equivalent.
• Take full production ownership: health monitoring, incident response, upgrades and reliability.
• Participate in customer‑facing engagements such as architecture reviews and stakeholder meetings.
• Mentor junior engineers on platform standards and best practices.

Required profile

• Open to work EST hours.
• 5+ years of hands‑on infrastructure or platform engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in GKE and Kubernetes at the platform level (multi‑cluster, RBAC, Workload Identity, networking, complex upgrades).
• Proven experience operating multi‑tenant shared infrastructure.
• Experience with Weaviate or comparable vector‑database technologies.
