Earth Observation Satellite System Engineer

About the role

The Earth Observation Satellite System Engineer will join Airbus Defence & Space’s EOS Chief Engineering Department in Getafe, Spain. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development and verification of high‑performance Earth Observation satellite missions for both institutional and defence markets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation and execution of the Verification & Validation (V&V) plan in line with ECSS standards.
• Perform mission analysis, develop the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and derive V&V strategies.
• Define and apply verification methods (analysis, inspection, demonstration, test) throughout the mission lifecycle.
• Manage the Verification Control Document (VCD) and coordinate system‑level tests, including environmental and end‑to‑end functional testing.
• Oversee satellite interface control, maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and resolve cross‑subsystem conflicts.
• Support the Chief Engineer in technical oversight, risk management and decision‑making across all subsystems.
• Participate in technical reviews (PDR, CDR, QR, AR) and prepare high‑level documentation for customers and stakeholders.
• Drive the adoption of modern engineering methods such as Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and concurrent design.

Required profile

• Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in satellite systems engineering, preferably in Earth Observation or science missions.
• Strong understanding of ECSS standards and V&V processes.
• Ability to manage complex interfaces and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
