Mid-Level Backend Engineer – Data Pipelines

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Mid‑Level Backend Engineer to join a fast‑growing startup in Barcelona. You will design, build, and optimise data pipelines and backend services that keep the organisation’s data clean, reliable and ready for analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform and load data from multiple sources.
• Write clean, efficient Python code with a focus on performance, memory usage and maintainability.
• Collaborate on SQL and NoSQL database schema design and optimise query performance.
• Implement unit tests, integration tests and data‑quality checks to ensure pipeline integrity.
• Deploy and iterate on pipelines using CI/CD practices and containerisation tools such as Docker.
• Participate actively in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Strong Python engineering skills with production‑quality code experience.
• Proven experience building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines and large‑scale data ingestion.
• Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimisation.
• Ability to work autonomously from requirement definition to production deployment.
• Quick learner who can understand and contribute to unfamiliar codebases.
• Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
