Senior Accountant – French Entities

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to manage the full accounting cycle for French legal entities from our Bilbao office. The role supports a multinational industrial materials group and requires strong expertise in IFRS, French GAAP, and international finance operations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy and compliance of accounting records with IFRS and French GAAP, including balances, reconciliations, provisions, stock movements, and loan updates.
• Prepare and record journal entries for assets, liabilities, inventory, revenue, and expenses following group policies.
• Maintain balanced accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
• Review and validate travel and expense claims for correctness and compliance.
• Execute month‑end and year‑end closings, reconciling balance‑sheet items with full documentation.
• Prepare financial reports in line with IFRS, group reporting standards, and local statutory requirements.
• Support internal and external auditors during the annual audit process.
• Prepare VAT and other tax filings, assist external tax advisors, and manage tax inspections.
• Contribute to process improvements and assist in implementing new tools and systems.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in financial accounting or audit, covering general ledger and full balance‑sheet responsibilities.
• Relevant academic qualifications (Master in Accounting, CPA/CIMA, CPC‑AECA, DESCF).
• Experience in manufacturing or complex international organisations; experience in France is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and French GAAP.
• Fluent in French and English; Spanish is a plus.
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, and collaborative mindset.
