Senior Energy Storage Engineer

About the role

The Senior Energy Storage Engineer supports MN8’s utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the entire asset lifecycle, from acquisition due diligence to commissioning and fleet operations. Reporting to the ESS Engineering Lead, you will provide technical analysis, documentation, and coordination to ensure successful project delivery and ongoing performance.

Key responsibilities

• Support technical work for BESS projects through development, execution, commissioning, and operations.
• Maintain and improve company standards, specifications, and engineering requirements for utility‑scale BESS.
• Produce design guidance, technical documentation, and engineering review materials.
• Analyze complex BESS issues, coordinate with internal and external experts, and develop solutions.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, OEM offerings, and market trends; contribute recommendations.
• Perform fleet‑wide analyses for augmentation planning, warranty administration, degradation management, and performance optimization.
• Document lessons learned and share knowledge across the BESS portfolio.
• Coordinate with external consultants, EPCs, equipment suppliers, and integrators on scope, performance guarantees, and engineering requirements.
• Collect data, conduct incident investigations, and support root‑cause analysis for operating BESS.
• Help improve engineering processes, tools, and standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 3+ years experience in power generation, renewable energy, or energy storage engineering.
• 2+ years experience with utility‑scale BESS engineering and a strong understanding of BESS technologies.
• Proven track record supporting BESS projects through all phases.
• Working knowledge of system architecture, grid integration, controls/EMS, performance analytics, augmentation planning, warranty administration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience coordinating cross‑functional initiatives and technical resources.
