Senior Liaison Assistant

About the role

The Senior Liaison Assistant will serve as the primary interface between the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) / UNICTF in Valencia and a wide range of external stakeholders, including diplomatic missions, government authorities, NGOs, educational institutions and the local community. Reporting to the Head of Premises, the role supports the implementation of Host Country Agreements and promotes the UN’s presence in Spain.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain constructive relationships with host‑country diplomatic representatives, UN agencies, local and regional authorities, and community organisations.
• Facilitate compliance with Host Country Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, assisting senior UN officials in addressing protocol‑related issues.
• Develop and sustain contacts with national, regional, provincial and local officials of the host country.
• Promote the image of UNICTF through partnerships with educational, cultural, media and professional associations.
• Support the planning and execution of high‑level visits, outreach programmes, institutional events and special community projects.
• Prepare diplomatic and official correspondence, including notes verbales, letters, speeches, press releases and meeting talking points.

Required profile

• Proven experience in diplomatic liaison, external relations or similar roles within an international or governmental environment.
• Strong knowledge of diplomatic protocol, international agreements and UN staff privileges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to draft formal diplomatic documents.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and represent the organization in public settings.
