Senior Scientist - Biocatalysis & Organic Synthesis (Scent R&D)

About the role

Within IFF's Scent R&D division, which develops fragrance ingredients and technologies combining chemistry, biotechnology and creativity, a Senior Scientist is needed to design and run biocatalytic approaches for scent molecule development. The role is based in Benicarló, Spain, under an anchor work model.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement novel biocatalytic methodologies applied to scent molecule development
• Develop experimental procedures, analyse and interpret data, and ensure accurate reporting and documentation
• Run research projects from early-stage validation through to scale-up
• Research advances in biotransformation and organic chemistry through literature and intellectual property
• Prepare technical reports on research outcomes and optimisation opportunities
• Manage projects independently from concept to completion, acting as project leader
• Collaborate cross-functionally with chemists, biochemists and chemical engineers
• Mentor junior scientists and trainees, and deliver training to technical teams as a local subject matter expert in biocatalysis

Required profile

• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field
• 3-5 years of experience in biocatalysis, ideally in an industrial setting
• Fluent English, written and spoken
• Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
• Flavor and fragrance industry experience and experience scaling biocatalytic processes are a plus
