Senior Software Engineer – AI & Backend

About the role

We are looking for a senior software engineer to join Pearson’s English Language Learning AI team. The role focuses on designing and building backend services and AI‑driven features that enhance digital learning products.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product owners to design, implement and maintain backend components for digital learning products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define objectives, requirements and timelines.
• Lead projects and champion backend best practices, including DevOps, Clean Code and Domain‑Driven Design.
• Architect scalable micro‑service APIs and integrate large‑language‑model capabilities.
• Operationalise AI models together with data‑science teams, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Maintain technical documentation and mentor junior engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement, security compliance and knowledge sharing across the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience delivering high‑quality software in an autonomous, fast‑moving environment.
• Strong background in backend development and AI integration.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Design and deployment of micro‑services and RESTful APIs.
• CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Operationalisation of AI/LLM models.
