Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International)

About the role

Affirm's Identity team is mission-critical to the customer checkout experience: it runs identity checks for customers choosing Affirm, covering KYC, user lifecycle management and identity decisioning across many regulatory environments. The team of six engineers is based across Spain and Poland and is responsible for markets outside North America. This is a remote position in Spain, with visa sponsorship available.

Key responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity and keeping everyone supported.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics on ideation, technical constraints and risk-aware decisions.
• Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues and lead their resolution.
• Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed, and support on-call and "keep the lights on" work.
• Raise code quality and review standards, share knowledge through writing and tech talks, and mentor engineers and new hires.
• On-call rotation is a requirement for this role.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale in Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience planning the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Comfortable making big changes in a large codebase safely, with your own tools and practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication with a global engineering team.
