Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the mechanical development of ruggedized electronic systems, including control units, power modules, and computing modules. The role is based in Valencia, Spain, and operates in a hybrid work model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a local engineering team of two engineers, prioritising tasks and ensuring delivery.
• Act as the primary technical interface with the Thailand team for subsystem integration.
• Collaborate with System Engineer and Project Manager to align design progress with milestones.
• Manage the System Bill of Materials (BOM) and maintain traceability.
• Analyse customer specifications, define mechanical constraints, and flow down requirements.
• Maintain the Requirements Compliance Matrix (VCRM) and ensure adherence to MIL‑STD‑810 standards.
• Supervise mechanical design of VPX 3U systems, guaranteeing IP65 sealing and structural integrity.
• Lead thermal management solutions using heat pipes, spreaders, and cold plates.
• Oversee backplane and I/O panel integration, defining cabling or rigid‑flex strategies.
• Define verification plans and supervise prototype assembly and testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for electronics packaging.
• Proven experience leading technical teams or managing work packages.

Required skills

• Expert proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation (thermal & structural analysis).
• Familiarity with Jira or JAMA for project tracking.
• Deep knowledge of MIL‑STD‑810 compliance.
• Experience with VPX 3U packaging, IP65 sealing, and high‑power thermal solutions (heat pipes, heat spreaders, cold plates).
