Systems and Infrastructure Administrator (IT)

About the role

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is looking for a Systems and Infrastructure Administrator to join its Technical Division. The role involves managing and supporting the institute’s Linux‑based IT infrastructure, virtualization platforms, storage, networking and security services.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Debian and Ubuntu Linux servers.
• Manage Proxmox VE virtualization environments.
• Configure and maintain OPNsense firewalls.
• Oversee Synology and QNAP NAS storage systems.
• Implement backup solutions and conduct regular restoration tests.
• Monitor infrastructure health using Observium.
• Handle SSL/TLS certificate issuance and renewal.
• Provide DNS, DHCP, VPN, SSH and related services.
• Resolve second‑ and third‑level incidents related to systems and networking.
• Participate in projects to modernise and improve the IT environment.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation.

Required profile

• Proactive attitude with strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven experience administering critical IT infrastructures in a research or scientific environment.
