Tactical Communications Lab Test Engineer

About the role

Aircraft and defence test engineer position at Airbus Defence and Space in Getafe (Madrid). The selected candidate joins the Flight & Integration Test Centre, which carries out Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) testing across the Spanish defence portfolio (Eurofighter, A400M, MRTT, C295, Eurodrone, SIRTAP, Helicopters, FCAS). The team runs hands-on tests from virtual environments and laboratory rigs to ground and flight testing, ensuring the performance and clearance of tactical, mission, safety and connectivity communication systems.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse technical documentation and test requirements to define and build rig test cases, procedures and requirement specifications.
• Generate test datasets, simulation requirements, test scripts, initialization files and tactical scenarios before each test.
• Run rig test procedures, handling pre-run activities (crypto/software loading) and run-time operation with lab equipment such as MaTE, AIDASS, TIGER, MIGATO and bus analyzers.
• Assess system behaviour after tests, write test reports and support root-cause investigations of problem reports.
• Manage equipment and system issues with configuration and tracking tools such as DOORS, Octane and FTNet.
• Specify and qualify ad-hoc test tools for decoding, recording, translation, emulation and process automation.

Required profile

• Degree or Master's in Telecommunications, Radiocommunications, Electronics or Aeronautical Engineering.
• 2 to 6 years of experience in system testing, IV&V or hands-on rig testing; a demonstrable testing background is preferred over pure design.
• Advanced English and Spanish, both technical and general.
• Proactive problem solver, adaptable, rigorous and able to work autonomously under tight project milestones in multifunctional teams.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of tactical datalinks (Link 16/22, VMF, Mission Comms, SATCOM, ALIMS, JRE).
• Hands-on use of MIL-STD-1553 bus analyzers, sniffers, datalink simulators and test support systems.
• Requirement partitioning, test data creation and traceability management.
