UAS Synthetic Environment & Sensor Simulation Engineer

About the role

Airbus UpNext Spain is looking for a Synthetic Environment & Sensor Simulation Engineer to create virtual worlds and realistic sensor models that support the flight autonomy demonstrator. The position is based in Getafe and starts as soon as possible, with a limited contract running until the end of December 2028.

Key responsibilities

• Build dynamic, procedural virtual environments (terrain, urban areas, weather, lighting, obstacles) using game‑engine technology.
• Create high‑fidelity synthetic and hybrid datasets with precise ground‑truth annotations for AI training and benchmarking.
• Configure and validate physics‑based sensor models (cameras, LiDAR, radar) that replicate real‑world limitations, noise and latency.
• Integrate simulated environments with real‑time flight‑autonomy hardware and develop automated pipelines for large‑scale simulation campaigns.
• Collaborate with perception, safety and flight‑test teams to translate testing needs into executable simulation scenarios.

Required profile

• Strong passion for constructing high‑fidelity digital representations of reality.
• Experience delivering sensor perception models under real‑time constraints.
• Ability to work on a project‑focused, time‑bound contract.

Required skills

• Deep experience with simulation and game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity or NVIDIA Omniverse.
• Proficiency in physics‑based sensor modeling and procedural scene generation.
• Knowledge of integrating synthetic environments with hardware‑in‑the‑loop test rigs.
