Data Center Assistant Internship

About the role

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Valencia seeks two Data Center Assistant interns to support the Technology Infrastructure Support Unit. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in data‑centre operations and infrastructure monitoring within a Tier III‑certified environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily health checks of core infrastructure systems such as cooling, power autonomy, and fire suppression.
• Assist with hardware lifecycle tasks, including inventory management, rack stacking, and cable organization.
• Track environmental metrics, power utilization, and rack capacity.
• Support backup job verification and basic restore scenarios.
• Help design and implement Radio Frequency access‑control systems.
• Log and update incidents, requests, and changes in the relevant management tools.
• Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the designated official.

Required profile

• High‑school diploma plus enrollment in the final year of a bachelor’s programme or completion of a graduate programme (Master’s/Ph.D.).
• Field of study related to Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Telecommunications.
• Proficiency in English and French.

Required skills

• Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Understanding of networking concepts.
• Familiarity with virtualization and monitoring systems.
• Experience with cabling and electrical systems.
