Game Design Director – Star Trek Fleet Command

About the role

Scopely is seeking a Game Design Director to lead the design vision for the popular mobile MMO Star Trek Fleet Command. The role is remote, supporting teams across Ireland, Spain, or the UK, and focuses on shaping daily player experiences and long‑term content strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design standards, direction, and player experience for monthly content releases.
• Lead the content pipeline, directing designers and live‑ops specialists to create compelling gameplay loops.
• Guide teams through the creative process, ensuring alignment with the game’s vision and product goals.
• Manage and mentor designers in systems and economy design, raising overall quality.
• Foster a high‑performance culture through leadership, development, and engagement.
• Shape design processes to exceed player expectations and support long‑term scalability.
• Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and engineers to implement features and evaluate performance using data and player feedback.

Required profile

• 5+ years of game design leadership experience.
• Proven expertise in free‑to‑play (F2P) systems design and progression modelling.
• 8+ years designing systems or economies for live F2P games, preferably MMO, 4X, or strategy titles.
• Deep mastery of complex game economies and strong leadership/people‑management skills.
• Track record of delivering clear creative direction and effective managerial feedback.
• Experience across all design disciplines: concept, progression, UI, monetization, and retention.
• Ability to translate KPI targets and data into actionable design direction.
• Experience working cross‑functionally in live production environments.

Required skills

• Advanced spreadsheet modeling and balancing of power curves, pacing, and resource flow.
