Inspector I - Petroleum and Chemical Sampling

About the role

Core Laboratories is hiring an Inspector I in Barcelona. The inspector performs basic inspection work in petroleum, petrochemical, gas, grain, oils and fats terminals and refineries, and on board barges and ships, following industry standards and the procedures published by API, Fosfa, Gafta and Saybolt. The role involves port activities and sometimes offshore work, and may require travel and occasional out-of-town assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist other inspectors and Account Managers in their duties and help run operations efficiently, meeting client needs accurately and on time.
• Perform visual cleanliness inspections of tanks, including entering confined spaces, and verify the accuracy of measurement and sampling equipment.
• Take product measurements and samples, perform related calculations, complete reports and forms, perform inventories and carry out non-petroleum or chemical inspection assignments.
• Work safely around hazardous materials as defined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and follow company procedures such as the HSE Manual, accounting policies, ethics policy and compliance code.
• Attend training and pass examinations in petroleum, chemical, Fosfa, Gafta and gas inspection procedures, including right-to-know and hazardous materials training, and gain laboratory knowledge through cross-training.
• Maintain materials and installations in good condition, manage sample disposal and stock control, and keep the vehicle and driver's licence in order.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year as an Inspector or related experience.
• Good verbal and written knowledge of the local language and English.
• Valid driver's licence with a satisfactory record, and a vehicle in good condition for sample transport; local travel and occasional out-of-town work required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Sampling and measurement techniques, and ability to read and interpolate data tables.
• Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percents and linear, volumetric and weight quantities.
• Independent work, teamwork and good communication.
