Legal Counsel – LNG Shipping & Trading

About the role
We are looking for a proactive Legal Counsel to join Axpo’s growing international LNG trading business in Madrid. The role supports the LNG, LPG and gas businesses, focusing on seaborne shipping and commodity trading, and works closely with internal stakeholders across Europe.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal and regulatory advice to the LNG and ssLNG business units, as well as to LPG and gas teams when required.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial sale‑and‑purchase agreements (e.g., LNG MSPAs), charterparties and ancillary contracts such as broker agreements, NDAs and MoUs.
- Review financing documentation, including letters of credit and performance guarantee certificates.
- Collaborate with front‑office, risk, tax and insurance functions to ensure aligned business decisions.
- Coordinate and manage external law firms as needed.
Required profile
- Qualified lawyer under English law or another common‑law jurisdiction, with a bar admission.
- 3‑5 years minimum experience in commodity or energy trading (LNG, LPG, oil) and shipping, either in‑house or at an international law firm.
- Solution‑oriented mindset with strong ownership of legal matters.
- Assertive negotiation style and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
Required skills

- Reviewing financing instruments such as letters of credit and performance guarantees.
- Knowledge of LNG shipping regulations and commodity trading practices.
