Manager, Process Safety

About the role

The Upgrader Process Safety Manager will provide Chevron’s process safety leadership for the PetroPiar Upgrader, a joint venture between PDVSA and Chevron located at the José Industrial Complex in Venezuela. The role ensures safe, reliable and compliant operation by overseeing the Process Safety Management (PSM) system and the Upgrader Recovery Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Chevron’s focal point for process safety at the Upgrader, aligning with Operational Excellence and enterprise standards.
• Lead development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Upgrader PSM system, including risk management, safeguard assurance, incident learning and operational discipline.
• Own the Upgrader Recovery Plan, defining risk‑reduction priorities, sequencing actions and integrating them into maintenance, turnarounds and operational windows.
• Identify, assess and prioritize process safety risks using methodologies such as PHA, QRA and LOPA, and ensure critical safeguards are defined, verified and monitored.
• Provide independent oversight for management of change, operational readiness and asset integrity activities that affect risk.
• Ensure effective investigation, learning and corrective‑action follow‑through for incidents, near‑misses and weak signals.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership in process safety within an industrial or oil‑and‑gas environment.
• Experience managing cross‑functional teams across operations, maintenance, engineering and projects.
• Proven ability to drive risk‑reduction programs and embed safety culture.
